Quasi-particles for Quantum Hall Edges A

چکیده
We discuss a quasi-particle formulation of effective edge theories for the fractional quantum Hall effect. Fundamental quasi-particles for the Laughlin state with filling fraction ν = 1 3 are edge electrons of charge −e and edge quasi-holes of charge + e 3. These quasi-particles satisfy exclusion statistics in the sense of Haldane. We exploit algebraic properties of edge electrons to derive a kinetic equation for charge transport between a ν = 1 3 fractional quantum Hall edge and a normal metal.

Quasi-particles in Fractional Quantum Hall Effect Edge Theories
We propose a quasi-particle formulation of effective edge theories for the fractional quantum Hall effect. For the edge of a Laughlin state with filling fraction ν = 1 m , our fundamental quasi-particles are edge electrons of charge −e and edge quasi-holes of charge + e m . These quasi-particles satisfy exclusion statistics in the sense of Haldane. We exploit algebraic properties of edge electr...
متن کاملnoise in coupled dots and the “ fractional charges ”
We consider the problem of shot noise in resonant tunneling through double quantum dots in the case of interacting particles. Using a many-body quantum mechanical description we evaluate the energy dependent transmission probability, the total average current and the shot noise spectrum. Our results show that the obtained reduction of the noise spectrum, due to Coulomb interaction, can be inter...
متن کاملThe Quantum Hall Effect Unified Scaling Theory and Quasi - particles at the Edge
We address two fundamental issues in the physics of the quantum Hall effect: a unified description of scaling behavior of conductances in the integral and fractional regimes, and a quasi-particle formulation of the chiral Luttinger Liquids that describe the dynamics of edge excitations in the fractional regime.
متن کاملLocalization of fractionally charged quasi-particles.
An outstanding question pertaining to the microscopic properties of the fractional quantum Hall effect is understanding the nature of the particles that participate in the localization but that do not contribute to electronic transport. By using a scanning single electron transistor, we imaged the individual localized states in the fractional quantum Hall regime and determined the charge of the...
متن کامل0 Ju n 20 04 Can Quasi - Particles Tunnel Through A Barrier ?
This is a qualitative description of a systematic analysis carried out by us . We address the question of whether fractionally charged particles, in the context of the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) can tunnel through a potential barrier (around which the density of the quantum Hall liquid is practically zero). Setting the barrier in a multiply-connected FQHE geometry removes the ”global...
